This is a one-to-one course designed to assist students to develop coding ability, practical understanding of the issues behind code, as well as ability to start and complete a real project, with a view to producing authentic portfolio content. The intention is that once this is complete, they are ready to begin projects on their own, add it to their resume, or rapidly increase their speed of their academic advancement.
Just like learning any new language, ability in coding takes time. Coding is extremely hard, and building real world software that is useful is also extremely difficult – many start learning, many give up. Although it is very much the choice of the student, I highly recommend a year of continual part-time study. Continual learning such as this results in a real-world skill, founded in the struggle and persistence needed to continue as either a freelancer, or a job-seeker with prior experience and a recommendation letter from the mentor.
